Welcome to the first issue of Meem's e-newsletter. It's been a historic month for us, so we're glad to start off this newsletter with our best news yet.

Our New House
We've settled into our new activity center in Beirut and are half-way through the furnishing process. The House offers a meeting space, entertainment room, book & film library, board games, conference room, wireless internet, coffee & tea, counseling services, study desks, and various activities and events. Opening hours are 12pm-9pm on weekdays and 12pm-12midnight on weekends.

Trip to Faraya
Our Social Events Committee organized their first outdoors trip one sunny Sunday in March. A bunch of meems headed to Faraya for a day of snow fights, snow-women, hiking, lunch, and bumper cars.

Arab Lesbian Support
Meem is currently conducting an outreach program to support lesbians living in Arab countries. We are setting up small support groups in 5 Arab capitals for LBTQ women to meet, talk, and support each other in their daily lives and struggles.

Meem in Strasbourg for the Transsexual Day of Remembrance
On the 19th of November 2007, to commemorate the Transsexual day of Remembrance, STS: Support Transgender Strasbourg invited Meem to a day of activities. A Meem member spoke of the situation of transsexuals in Lebanon. She gave facts concerning the subject of what is required for a sex change operation and answered questions emphasizing the role that the transsexual and transgender community played in making the LGBT cause visible in Lebanon. Meem in Budapest for a Workshop on Encouraging Dialogue Between LGBTQ and Faith-Based Communities
A Meem member participated in an IGLYO conference in Budapest on "Building Bridges to the Unknown." The workshop focused on dialogue with faith-based communities as a way to end discrimination against LGBTQ young people. Our member presented a Lebanese and Arab perspective on the discussion and learned valuable tools and strategies on the topic.

Member Demographics
In March, we hit 186 members! We hope to celebrate our 200th member next month. Our group is precisely as diverse as the Lebanese society, hailing from every region, every faith, and every background there is. We've conducted a small study on the Age Groups and Countries of Residence of our members. You can view the graphs here.
